If you bought a digital file on Etsy and tapping Download in the Etsy app does nothing, your order is fine. The Etsy app cannot download digital purchases at all. Open etsy.com in a browser instead and the same order downloads normally.
Why the Etsy app cannot do it
This is a documented limitation of the Etsy mobile app, not a fault in your order and not something the seller controls. Etsy states it directly in its own Help Centre:
“You can’t download a digital purchase through the Etsy app at this time. To download a digital file, please sign in to Etsy on your mobile browser or computer.”

Your files are attached to the order and stay there. Nothing has been lost, and you do not need to buy anything again.
Download it on a phone — 4 steps
- Open etsy.com in your phone’s browser — Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android. Not the Etsy app.
- Sign in with the same account you bought with.
- Tap You, then Purchases and reviews.
- Find the order and tap Download Files.
Tap each file to open it. iPhone saves it to Files; Android saves it to Downloads.
One thing worth knowing: if you tap an Etsy link from inside another app (a message, an email preview), it may open in that app’s built-in browser, where downloads often fail silently. Open Safari or Chrome directly and go to etsy.com from there.
Download it on a computer
Identical path, and easier for large files or ZIPs: sign in at etsy.com, go to You → Purchases and reviews, and click Download Files next to the order. A ZIP needs unzipping before you can open what is inside — on Windows, right-click and choose Extract All; on Mac, double-click it.
The Download Files button is missing
In order of how often it turns out to be the cause:
- The payment has not cleared yet. The button appears once Etsy confirms payment. On a brand-new order, wait a few minutes and refresh.
- You are signed in to a different account. Downloads live on the account that placed the order — easy to miss if you have a personal and a shop account.
- You checked out as a guest. There is no Purchases page without an account; the download link is in your Etsy order confirmation email instead.
- The order mixes physical and digital items. The digital file sits on its own line in the order, which is easy to scroll past.
- Still nothing? Message the seller through Etsy. They can see the order and re-send the file. This is a normal request and no seller minds it.
The link does nothing when I tap it
Etsy’s guidance is to disable non-standard browser add-ons — ad blockers, toolbars, download managers — and try again. In practice the other common causes are a private/incognito window, or an in-app browser as described above. A plain browser window signed in to your account is the reliable combination.
If a file downloads but will not open, delete it and download it again. A partial download can look like a complete one.
Common questions
Why can’t I download my Etsy digital purchase in the Etsy app?
Because the Etsy app does not support it. Etsy’s own Help Centre states: “You can’t download a digital purchase through the Etsy app at this time. To download a digital file, please sign in to Etsy on your mobile browser or computer.” It is a limitation of the app, not a problem with your order or with the seller’s file. The file is already attached to your order and waiting for you.
How do I download an Etsy digital file on my phone?
Open etsy.com in your phone’s browser (Safari or Chrome) rather than the Etsy app. Sign in with the account you bought with, tap You, then Purchases and reviews. Find the order and tap Download Files. Tap each file to open it; your phone saves it to Files on iPhone or Downloads on Android.
Where are my Etsy downloads after I buy them?
They stay on your Etsy order permanently. Sign in to etsy.com in a browser and go to You → Purchases and reviews → Download Files on that order. You can download them again as many times as you need; you do not need to save them the first time.
There is no Download Files button on my Etsy order. What now?
